[RC] re: stirrups - Cindy Collins

Sandy, I use the solid safety cages. I was on the Big Horn 100 one year having a super ride and I was off hiking a steep canyon with my horse. Apparently one of the small trees or tall sagebrush stuck through my safety cage holes and yanked the entire stirrup and leather off my saddle. Of course, I never realized it until I was at the top of the canyon and turned to mount up. Several friends searched with me trying to locate it in the dense undergrowth, but it was never found. When I marked that section of trail the following years, I searched more, but no luck. Anyhow, it was a ride stopping, heart-breaking event. I rode with one stirrup, but it's through pretty rugged canyons and I mostly had to walk. When I finally made it to the next vet check I was over time :( I really believe in the safety cages, so that's why I went with solid ones. Cindy
