[RC] different trailer issue - k s swigart

How do I teach him it is okay to back out, that I would
?never let him fall into the abyss??

You can teach them to back out at the same time you are teaching them to go
in.? I.e. Have the horse step into the trailer with its front end only, and
then back the horse out.? That way the horse learns to get comfortable with
backing halfway out, it also gets comfortable with being half in and half out
of the trailer.

I also teach my horses the meaning of the word "step" (the word that I use to
warn them that they are going to have to step down when they step back).

So, as they are backing out I say "back, back, back" until they get to the
edge, and then I say "step"

You can teach this NOT in a trailer first, by having them back off a curb or
some other kind of step down.
