Australian rider Meg Wade had a fall from her horse at an endurance ride this past weekend. Meg was riding on her own, under no pressure, in 2nd place, the horse shied, probably at a puddle of water (as they do), and it seems she was pitched forward landing on her head.
Meg's husband, Chris Gates, has asked that this message is sent to all the endurance folk who have sent messages and called the hospital and have been thinking of Meg, that he really appreciates everybody’s concerns, he also wishes it known that Dr Trish Annetts , who was attending the ride as a strapper for her daughter Jenny, and was able to attend the incident very quickly with the ambulance and give expert medical attention , the outcome may have been very different
Meg was riding in a titanium helmet (GPA I think he said) and Chris is firmly of the opinion that it was this helmet that was instrumental in saving her life, and repeated several times how this can happen to anyone and how important it is to have good quality helmets firmly secured.
Meg is in the intensive care unit at Royal Canberra Hospital, obviously visitors or any contact is not allowed. Chris said that the Drs have said the next 36hrs will be crucial to her recovery
I’m sure all our thoughts are with Meg, Chris, especially Betty (her Mum) her family and the entire Castlebar crew
