[RC] late start at rides - Jonni

Donna, if you are doing the TX Blue Bonnet, you can usually leave as late as you want. Since all vet checks are in camp, you are not holding up anyone waiting for you to come in at a check that would be away from camp. Also, they have no cut off times for particular loops or check points. I have left 15 min. late at the rides there, and still had a few riders behind me. Just check in with the number taker, and you can tell them you are leaving late, but wanted to make sure they had you checked in. They also do not have any drag riders. Some rides have cut off times, drag riders, away vet checks etc., that could make leaving late an issue.

Leaving late can be a good way to school a new horse, or one that is overly excitable to ease into the routine of the ride. BUT, make sure you are aware if another distance is leaving after your start time, that might catch up to you at often, a high rate of speed. THAT can mess up all your schooling.
