[RC] WHY?...more of the story - Tom Sites

Hello,  Some time on  the AERC .org shows that the horse Truman was talking about (I assume was Rushcreek Quick) finished the ROC in around 39th place in 96.

Then *three weeks* later went to the Thousand Lake Mt. Challenge 25 in Utah and finished *second*.  They then went on one week after that to the High Country 50 in Colorado where Truman also finished and i finished the year before on Ballistic (small world heh?)

The *winner and BC* of the 25 mile ride 3 weeks after the ROC was a horse by the name of Mars (AERC-3)strange #))
who had done a 50 in 93 at Million Pines and in 94 did a 50 again at MP ,55 and BC at Gone w/the wind , 50 Biltmore, 50 Gold Rush, 50 River Run all ridden by Jeffrey Edmonston.  The horse has never done an LD before.

Then the horse must have been sold to Bill Stoddard who took Mars to the 25 LD as their first AERC ride and got 1st and BC at the Thousand Lake Mt. Challenge in Utah.   All horses were given a 1 hour finishing time tho the BC was given to Mars.

Summary... I would think it prudent to have ridden the 25 LD 3 weeks after the ROC and 1 week before the High Country Ride in Colorado that i think, if i remember correctly went up to at least 10,000 feet.

So what is the rest of the story on Mars??  Dr. Jerry Gillipsie of Kansas last rode Mars on a 25 in 2003.
