Re: [RC] head injury--reassurance - Lynn Kinsky

As I said, of course one should be watchful after any sort of head trauma. ?(Yes we should all wear helmets!) ?I'm merely pointing out that she took a very soft fall, yet wound up dying. ?This is NOT the typical outcome of a minor head injury followed by careful monitoring and excellent medical intervention. ?

Lynn's story makes my point. ?She says, "I flew over her head and hit the back of my head",?a pretty extreme occurrence--much more dramatic than a little tumble in the snow, yet Lynn is still alive and well enough to make cogent points about head injuries. ?The trauma on Lynn's scan clearly shows damage, yet her brain seems to be functioning well. ?

But I was wearing an ASTM certified Equestrian helmet which absorbed a lot of the shock, much like airbags do in car accidents (I have no doubt that I'd be dead without it). That I'm functioning well now, a decade lateer, just shows that the brain can heal.

Corn snow, which is what I'd expect a ski resort in the New England/Quebec region to have in the spring is not a soft fall -- it's icey.
