Re: [RC] Horse pee-ing, different thought. - D'Arcy Demianoff-Thompson

Point very well taken Nina.? One more issue to add to your potential urinary elimination difficulties would be scar tissue!?
?
A number of years ago a friend of mine had a?mare that would urinate small amounts and 'drip' inbetween.? The owner sent her to me to be bred to one of my stallions.? There was no way I was going to breed a horse in this condition and requested a batter of tests, including a culture be done.? The owner agreed.? The?culture did not come up with an infection.??My vet, Dr. Byerly, suggested that I send the mare back to the owner.??
?
I sent the mare back to the owner, who lived in Washington, to be seen by?the University of Washington equine facility.?? They scoped the mare's bladder and found?scar tissue?from what appeared to be an 'old'?infection.? They went in and removed the scar tissue, expanded her bladder to make sure there were no rips from being in a constant state of expansion.? The owner admitted to having self treated the horse with antibiotics, after her last foal, from what appeared to be blood in the urine.?*eyeroll*? ?However, it was so far into the infection that scar tissue had formed.? God Bless the armchair vets!?? Anyway, needless to say I refused to breed my stallion to the mare due to the owner's lack of ability to perform medical care in a timely manner.?
