Re: [RC] Rain sheet advice 600 or 1600D? - Sisu West RanchAnother possibility is to go as cheaply as possible. 15 yrs. ago we found some cotton canvas sheets in the local farm store for very little money. A couple of coats of Thompson's Water Seal (TM) and our horses were dry in the Midwest rains.Of course, they are not particularly stilish and that may be a consideration. By the way the "600" and "1200" is supposed to relate to the thickness of the synthetic yarn used to weave the fabric. A 1 denier yarn weighs 1 gram per 9000 meters*, so a 600 denier yarn weighs 600 grams per 9000 meters. Ed *Originally the denier was a Roman coin, later used in France. When silk culture was first started they started to weigh the thread in relation to these coins. Later when France went metric it was redefined in relation to the gram and meter, thus the strange and odd length. Today the good old USA is about the only place in the world where the denier is still used. The rest of the world uses the Tex (weight in grams of 1000 meters) and the decitex (weight in grams of 10,000 meters.)
