Re: [RC] Training Tips (was: Lazy young horse) - Elizabeth WalkerThis is a great tip. Thanks. Here is another -- make sure you don't mix up your signals and use one signal for two different things - even if one wasn't supposed to be any signal at all. There have been a few times when I've had trouble with Caisson doing something. Only afterwards did I realize ... oh - wait, I was mixing up signals on him. The last time this happened was when I was just asking him to walk / slow trot around me. I was just using his halter and lead ( 10ft + lead line ). Every time I would try to adjust the length of the rope, he would stop and face me. Only afterwards did I realize I was adjusting it by "bouncing" the rope (so I only used one hand - tossed it up a little and caught it farther along its length), rather than smoothing sliding it using two hands.... and bouncing the rope when I lead him (hand going up and down - not a jerk, but just bumping the rope) is the signal I use when he is getting too far in front of me, and he needs to wait...
