Re: [RC] Convention Rooms - Truman PrevattHotel room rates are a commodity. While the industry the prices vary with supply and demand. Hotels to some extent are becoming more like rug merchants every day. It is better to get X dollars for a room than leave it empty. There is no cost savings on an empty room and the fixed cost are exactly the same - better to have someone in it even at a reduces cost. They have all sorts of prices. I've gone on the Hilton site and looked at the price and then gone back on later to book a room - to see variation in the "best available" rate. Normally organizations don't get much of a break on the rooms. What the organization gets is a break on the meeting rooms. Is that fair - each of us seems to have an opinion on that, but it is a fact of life. Those that want to stay at the hotel are paying for the convenience of being where all the action is. Those that don't have the inconvenience of going to the hotel to the convention, trade show, etc. The good news is we live in a country were we do have the options. Our airfare has dropped twice since Christmas and car rental has also dropped twice.
