Re: [RC] Silver legacy the support of our convention - CTH
We understand how it
works now that it has been explained BUT it was never put out to the membership
that the rooms must be booked in the block to subsidize the convention
costs. All we were told was to book under AERC. I would be curious to see how
many people thought that meant a better rate.
If you do not work in
that business you would not be aware of this.
Personally I figured we
were getting a deal because we were paying for all the rooms ect. The hotel
benefits from the convention without having to work very hard to attract
clients. I wish I could do that with my business.
"Hey Paddi mind if we
bring a few hundred folks over to spend money at your place for a few
days?"
Had I not been killing
time on line today I would not even have been aware of the rate difference.
This convention is a huge
project for the staff at AERC and I thank them for all their efforts.
I hope to see you all at
the convention. Bring your running shoes and jackets. The trade show is about a
block from the actual convention head quarters.
Hope you take time to
stroll down and visit us all.
The meeting rooms and vendor floor needed for convention
are VERY expensive! In order for us, as AERC members to have use of these
rooms, the hotel requires AERC to reserve a "block" of sleeping rooms.
Typically, if many of the expected guests book outside of the block of rooms,
it will end up costing AERC for them, or an increase in rates for the meeting
rooms.
If any of you want convention to remain a reasonable rate in
the future, I suggest you honor Connie's request and book your rooms through
the block if possible.

But to me, it does not make sense that their "deal" to AERC is not as
good as the basic deal someone can get by on line booking. I'd think that
who ever the AERC contact is with the hotel, should at least ask them about
it.
