[RC] a clear path? - Michael Maul

In response to Truman's post that says "See Rule 4.1.1 - which specifies specifically a reason for denial of entry." is a clear path for AERC to use if a rider fails to pay.

The rule is:

Entry to a ride may be refused for cause.
4.1 Cause is defined as a specific occurrence, substantiated by direct and corroborated evidence of, including but not limited to, one of the following:
4.1.1 Non-payment of ride fees, such as insufficient funds check not made good.

I may be wrong in this but to me - this is a rule that ride managers can use to deny a rider entry for non-payment.

I don't see it as a rule that the AERC BoD or the AERC office can use to suspend a member for non-payment of a ride fee. The interface I see is AERC office to ride manager and a separate ride manager to rider interface.

My understanding is that AERC tries to keep out of the relationship a ride manager has with the riders as much as possible unless there is a good reason.

While I don't know the history of rule 4 - I'll bet that part of it came about in an effort to ensure a "level playing field" for riders. If a manager could refuse entry w/o cause - there could be refusals based on personal relationships that could significantly affect point standings.

My bottom line here on the above rule is that I believe it's for ride managers to use and not for AERC to suspend a rider.

Mike
