Re: [RC] different sports? - Beth Walker

That is a really good question, and I will bet, that when all the discussion is over, there really ends up being no difference that people will accept.

Why? Because if you want to have rules that distinguish between "Riding" and "Racing", I would think that you would have to put a minimum time limit on completion of a given course for "Riding", which immediately raises protests of "but then you have CTR".

So - as far as I can see - without minimum times, whether a given event is a "ride" or a "race" depends on each individual participating, and the "racers" will continue to get the Top 10 awards, while the "riders" will have to be happy with "to finish is to win".

well how, exactly, are they different? as a SPORT - which implies rules of the game... then what is the difference?

if we were to design 2 different sports - Endurance Riding and Endurance Racing - what would the rules of the game be? How would they differ? and how would AERC change, or would it?
