Re: [RC] [RC] Renegade boot preliminary review - Marirose Six

"

My focus is a bit different - I'm actually interested in something just for emergencies.  Caisson has standard shoes, and is doing fine in them.  So - for my purposes, I just want something that is easy to put on, and will last until I get back to the trailer or the nearest horse shoer.  With a bit of luck, it won't wear out because I'll never use it.  :) "

The BEST spare tire I've ever had (no joke here) is an old dish towel & a roll of vetrap. We had to use this on a flat footed TB in the Big Horn mountains one year. We were still miles from camp when he pulled a shoe & he got very sore very quickly. No one had any boots, but i always carry the afore mentiond stuff in my saddle bags (along with many things, including the kitchen sink-fold up h2o bucket :o)). After folding up the towel to cover his hoof, we used a hole roll of vetrap to hold it on. She was able to ride him out at a walk without anymore soreness. That  wrap stayed on him for 2 days (no more riding, travel days) before I had a chance to put the shoe back on.
It may take up to 5 minutes to put on, but the price is right. :o) (Besides, they don't make a boot that would fit my mules.) Also, it takes up less space in the saddle bags, has multiple uses, incl. emergency bandage, & it hardly weighs a thing!
