Re: [RC] Riding strategy -- mare in heat at an endurance ride - Truman PrevattI may be lucky, but after a few rides my mare could be in dead heat when she climbed onto a trailer for an endurance ride. By the time she got there she was out. I remember rides where we left on Thursday for a 100 when she had just come in. On Saturday we rode with a stallion for 100 miles and you would not have known.Of course when I retired her to breed - that trait was a real pain in the butt which meant when I put her on the trailer to take her to breed, she was out when I got there :-( . I think it really depends on the mare. I know there are folks who prefer mares for several reasons. They obviously have developed a protocol that keeps their mares out of trouble while at ride. So, mare owners, what do you do that works when your mare is in heat on an endurance ride weekend? -- "It is even harder for the average ape to believe that he has descended from man." H.L.
