[RC] Big horses in endurance - Kristi Schaaf

I wonder if many or even most bulky horses used in endurance who tie up
actually do so because of EPSM (also known as PSSM), which is a genetic muscle
disorder found more often in heavier muscled breeds.

I had one of those horses and EPSM broke my heart and his. 1/2 Arab 1/2 QH and
EVERYTHING about him (bone, soundness, conformation, attitude, appetite, spark,
etc) was 'right' for endurance except that stupid gene he carried for EPSM. It
destroyed muscle mass almost every time he tried to do what he loved.
