[RC] Equestrian "gadgets" - Kitley, Carrie E Civ USAF AFSPC 30 MDSS/SGSLF

I came across this by accident. http://www.eponaire.com/id2.html I
cracked up because although it is a good idea and will probably make
them a good chunk of change, it's pretty far from simulating rider
weight, in my opinion. First of all, the weights aren't exactly bearing
where a rider would sit and secondly, it won't simulate the area of
coverage a rider imposes, i.e. rump location, legs hanging down the
horse's side, etc.
Here's what a trainer friend of mine used to do . . .
take an old pair of jeans, sew up the bottoms, fill them with sand and
tie them off tight at the top with a rope thru the belt loops. Put an
empty saddle on your horse, tie the loaded jeans into the saddle and
there ya go! Much more realistic simulation of a rider, don't you
think?
I'm seeing more and more gadgets for horses that are just money-making
schemes. I saw one site where a guy had "invented" and was selling a
fancy training bridle and all it was was an old-style metal vosal w/o
the rawhide wrapping on it. I'm in the wrong business.
