Re: [RC] R: Euthanize - Barbara McCraryThis is the attitude that is afforded the person who has made a living with animals. It doesn't make us less sentimental, just more practical and accepting of death as a part of life. It's still tough, but it's less traumatic, I think. We raise beef calves and my husband has had to shoot many a cow over the past 60 years if she was having serious health issues.Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Drin Becker" <jkn3444@xxxxxxxxx> To: <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, December 18, 2008 10:05 AM Subject: [RC] R: Euthanize I wholeheartedly agree , my husband and I used to outfit for a living , as our retired dude horses and packstring started to fail in health we take them for a walk into the willow bottoms and Jim gives them a good bait of grain and head scratch and than shoots them . The coyotes take care of the rest. Some of these horses haven't been ridden or used in 5 to 10 years , just wormed , feet trimmed and petted once in awhile. But we are lucky enough where we live that we can do this with little $$ except for their winters hay . We still have two of the pack string left , both are over 30 and looking great on just pasture in the summer and hay in the winter , that is our deal , if they start looking or acting rough than they are put down, otherwise they get to be a pasture pet until their time comes. I even have one cow that is in my "pet category" and will do the same with her. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
