A group here in Montana is working on putting together a euthanasia
service. One option is to fashion it after the Norcal rescue service where
the owners bring the horses to a facility on the scheduled day...in this case a
vet clinic with runs and pens and stalls. The owners sign their horses
over to Norcal with the understanding that if Norcal deems the horse has good
years left, they have the option to keep the horse and adopt it out. The
horses stay overnight, getting lots of hay and grain and the next morning they
are put down. The other option would be to go to each persons home and have the
horse put down there and the rendering plant pick the horse up there. It is more
expensive to do it that way but less stress for the horse. I am trying to get
some input on this to find out which one most people would rather do if it was
their horse needing to be euthanized...Some of us think most people would want
to drop their horse off.
