Re: [RC] Early handling - Chris A

My personal experience after raising a lot of foals puts the imprinting theory on its' head!

Two years in a row, I had siblings born, imprinted one and not the other.

In both cases, the unhandled one was easier to work with when it came time to catch, halter, lead, etc.

Heidi,

I think you have hit the nail on the head. I had seen enough what I call
"problem children" with imprinted horses that when our last was born I
decided to do the minimum we needed to do early so we could handle her -
but otherwise let Mom and Aunt Rosey teach here to be a horse. After
awhile she was with the geldings - reintroduced one at a time and by the
time she was 3 months she was a herd horse.
