I just do a basic curry and brush job, then ride.  Yeah, they get sweaty and muddy.  Here in Texas, it can be anything between 30 degrees and 70 degres this time of year.  If it's warm, I hose them off when I get home.  If it's not, I just turn them out to roll in one of their sand pits.  Then later when I go out to feed, I curry the dried crusty dirt, sand, and sweat off so that they're nice and fluffy again.  I've never had any hint of skin problems on any of them.
