It is as bad to provide late correction as it is to provide no correction. A classic example is in the world of dog training. The dog gets away and won't come back. After a long time the dog does return. The owner then corrects him, acts mad, and the dog cowers. Later the owner is surprised to find that the dog is even harder to catch. The reason is simple, the dog was punished for coming near to the owner! In this case the correct response is to love up the dog, tell him you missed him, and give him a treat. You have now rewarded him for coming.
