between the spring horse and the real horse, I drove my mother insane making her read me the same story, over and over and over again. To this day (she's 74) she can almost recite the whole thing. My original book was so dog-earred and torn, that the pages were loose, etc. My older sister (12 years older) who also knew the book pretty much by heart, purchased a new (used) one for me a few years ago for Christmas! She must have paid pretty good money as it's a collectible. Who can forget "A Pony for Tony"? I cry when I read it, not sure why, must be the little horse-crazy girl in me that didn't have a horse for so many years.
