RE: [RC] My first horse - Chastain, Shannon L.My first horse I got on my thirteenth birthday after begging for years. My dad was almost killed by a horse as a teenager so he hated them. Anyway my first horse was a very young green appy and he died the first night I owned him. He somehow fell down a hill and broke his neck. I lived in the mountains of Colorado. A neighbor felt sorry for me and said we could ride their horses all we wanted. They only used them in October for Elk hunting. So we got bridles went up into the 100 acre pasture and every other day all summer long rode the &*()* out of the horses. The next spring they bought a 10yr old green broke AQHA mare. This mare would not tie out and they decided to sell her to my parents cheap so I got my second horse for $100.00. She was the best kids horse ever she never did dump me, kicked or bit. I did not have a saddle the first two years so I learned to ride bare I even trained her to rear on command. We ran barrels, jumped and flew all over the Colorado Mountains bare I never had a lesson and never fell off till I got a saddle then came off when it slipped under her belly. Sure wish I had this old mare for my grandkids today.
