My first horse was a cardboard, palomino horse head that was supposed to be attached to the front of a bicycle but I used a string through its mouth to balance it against my stomach so I could "ride" anywhere. When it "died", I graduated to stick horses. My favorite was Avalanche, a grey with white highlights and a white, yarn mane. When he wasn't feeling well (or I couldn't remember where I had left him), my other "horse" was a bay Arab. I knew he was an Arab because he had such a pretty, arched neck.
