I went to a sporting good store, and bought one of
the tennis racket handle wraps, and put that on my S Hack, over the rope. You
can look at the bike handle bar wraps, and golf club wraps too. I had used vet
wrap in the past, but it gets gunky with sweat and dirt, and then gets rough and
kind of hard, and then rubs the horse. (although cheap to replace, and comes in
many colors!) The wrap I have is smooth, wipes clean with a wet towel, but
gives a little cushion, and is much softer than the rope, and fairly
inexpensive.
I removed the chin chain completely, and replaces
it with a macramé chin strap that I picked up at a local tack store. It ties on,
fitting through the small holes. You can find some with a chain section that tie
on in many western tack stores, but the all macramé ones are harder to find.
