Re: [RC] clipping of the endurance horse - Kathy MayedaMy furry grey horse gets a very wierd looking trace clip during the winter if I'm competing. I avoid clipping the girth and breastcollar area, but I clip the neck up to the "drip line" as well as most of the chest, along larger muscles of the legs, again below the dripline, the flank and a stripe along the inside buttcheeks up to the dock. The advantage here is that my horse tends to get diarrhea easily while competing, so it's easier to keep his behind clean. You can see his behind on the notepad they gave out at the 2007 AERC convention. K. I live in Oklahoma and the weather is crazy. I do keep my horse blanketed but she is still very bear-like. I did a ride the first of Nov. and I clipped her neck. I think it did help her cool off but at the end of the ride her CRI was elevated. The vet said that everything else was fine and that she was just hot. I have been considering clipping more of her but I am afraid to clip her girth area. Any suggestions on a good clip? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
