Re: [RC] Clipping the endurance horse - Elizabeth WalkerI'm in San Diego, so temps rarely get much below 35-40 where I am. Right now, Caisson's winter coat is almost all in, and its 86 degrees. I'm planning on doing a trace clip this weekend, as it seems like a pretty good compromise. It lets me work him even when its fairly warm, helps with cleanup and cooling out, but he still has enough coat that he only needs to be blanketed at night, or during stormy/windy weather.Since I don't get off work until 5 PM, it is dark by the time I get out to the ranch. With a full coat, I can't really do much as far as working him - even lunging - since it takes too long for him to cool down and dry out afterwards. A trace clip lets me at least lunge during the week, and he cools down/dries off enough for me to then blanket for the night.
