Looks like it wasn't all bad luck for the USA. They did end up with a
little good fortune in the harsh ride conditions at the first vet
check. Thanks to Becky, Meg, Kathy, and Steph for sharing their diaries,
blogs, and ride reports. There is certainly a lot of stuff in these that
we never would be privy to otherwise by just following official coverage.

and Flame almost did not recover within 30 minutes (the time
required to continue in the ride). In fact, we ended up getting a
gift there, because Theatric’s pulse was too high when he entered
the vet gate, and when he finally did recover and re- entered the gate it
was over the 30 minute time, but the card swiper was not working and
the officials didn’t realize he was over the time allowed. Whew we
were lucky and all US riders were through the
hold.
