Re: [RC] WEC - Maryanne GabbaniYou all need to remember the difference between horses ridden by amateur (in the old sense of the word, done for love) riders and horses that are coming from an industrial setting. You are talking apples and oranges. The resources available for the training, feeding and medicating of the horses in the Gulf stables are way beyond anything you can imagine. This is an industry in a place where people can spare no expense if that's what they want to do. I'm sure that most people look on Val Kanavy's training of competitive horses with a level of respect, but I'm willing to bet that if she could have just the part of the budget that is spent on, say, hay over there, she'd be over the moon and definitely in the black. Good grief, they import EVERYTHING for those horses and I've seen their hay here that they bring with them when they come to compete. No on in this part of the world has ever seen hay like that... and I'd bet that most of you would hock a truck to get it even there.
I'm impressed that the UAE did so well in Malaysia with very different riding styles necessary, but acclimatising to the heat and stuff? The Gulf in summer is way over triple digits and humid to boot. They only have to leave the airconditioning off in their barns to acclimatise the horses.
