I loved Kathy's confusion at the admiration of the hotel maintenance man for her age and activity. While it's impolite to ask a woman's age in North America or Europe, out here in the third world to be active and strong at 50 or 60 is a source of pride and women are not self-conscious about a little brag.  It's one of the things I love about Egypt. As women age they are treated with more and more respect and if you can ride a horse 100 miles....they are in absolute awe!
