Because I have Arabs, who will get in to
everything, I went with the drain plug type deicer. Easy to install in my
Rubbermaid tub. I actually set up the winter trough when we start getting the
freezing weather, and then just leave the regular trough alone. It is next to
the barn, and I drilled a hole in the barn wall, to run the cord through, so the
horses could not get into the cord either. The floating deicers, and those that
submerse, still have cords the horses can grab ahold of and play with them. For
my $100 investment INCLUDING a new Rubbermaid trough, it has worked well. At the
end of the season, I store the whole trough, not taking out the drain hole
deicer, until the following winter.
Many systems that are terrific, and lots more
