[RC] Fort Valley not exactly done by one! - Charles Coleman

My new motto of "done by one" which has worked just fine for the 170 miles of LDs Hawk and me have done this year was not going to happen this past weekend. I knew this long before I signed on the dotted line as Hawk has finished over 1100 miles of competition in the Massanutten Mountains. However we needed only 30 more miles to receive LD recognition in the year end awards so off we went.  Hearing what climbs we had on the first loop and that it was 18 miles I figured that in itself would take till one!
Ah me of little faith once we got to the roads Hawk kicked into his Amish road buggy trot and we were in and pulsed at 10:57. Now just 12 miles of what I called the zoom-zoom loop which Hawk gladly had a blast passing many horses course I did not tell him they would all outpulse the old Morgan which of course they did. We pulsed at 1:37 not bad. Art King vetted Hawk through as he was the vet at Hawks first ride many years ago and I thought it befitting he be the one to vet his last. So officially Hawk retires with 5,020 AERC miles 230 LDs miles and around 6600 ECTRA miles not bad for a horse who never did a ride till he was 10.
I would have loved to stayed and help Saturday at but the cold raw dampness plays havoc on my old bones and hubbys as well. This is a great ride and I will always have good memories of it on Hawk. Morgan Power! Mary
