I have had a handful of horses over the years who
will mentally just shut down, and not want to do what they are being asked to
do, and the next time do it perfect. One would sometimes lock up and not go in
the arena for the jumping course, and other times not blink and eye, and go in
and do a perfect round. It was almost like he got mentally over loaded, and
would just shut down. And when they do that, it seems going and doing something
else for a bit, and then coming back to the task at hand often would make them
forget they had decided to NOT do what you were asking them.
