Re: [RC] re: 100 milers are disappearing - Barbara McCraryActually, one of the first AERC-sanctioned multi-day rides was the Capitol-to-Capitol ride from Carson City, NV to Sacramento, CA (3 days, maybe 4?); then there was the first XP ride (5 days) in 1983. I rode it in 1983, 1984 and 1985. Later on, I rode the Applegate-Lassen multi-day all eight years it was offered. Several other excellent multi-day rides followed. Eventually, the one-basecamp, no-drivers-needed rides took over. Granted, less hassle for ride management, the riders and crews, but less exciting for the rider because he/she is NOT progressing along a genuine historic trail. Time and fuel being the problems they are these days, I guess it was inevitable.Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Truman Prevatt" <tprevatt@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "Cindy Collins" <c_collins@xxxxxxx> Cc: "Ridecamp Ridecamp" <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, October 16, 2008 7:14 PM Subject: Re: [RC] re: 100 milers are disappearing This trend started long before the current NC ride. In reality it can be traced by to the late 90's. In reality I believe the advent of an abundance of multi-day rides is giving people a lot of options for spending the endurance dollars. To some the multi-day is a better option. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
