I remember a study that was done one year at the Tevis (could have been
Garlinghouse who headed it). Anyway, the point of the study was to see the
correlation between a horse's body condition and performance at the Tevis. The
conclusion, if I remember correctly, was that the horses with some
fat did better than the skinny horses. Years ago there were more skinny
horses because people incorrectly thought they would do better in endurance that
way....enough information out there now that there isn't any excuse for
them to show up at rides as thin as you described.
