RE: [RC] Time between 100s - heidi

Just for fun, I looked up the three seasons that were the "busiest" for any of
our horses with regard to doing 100s... Here is the timing between rides that
I found, with the mileage listed and then the time until the next ride in
parentheses:

Sansih (1985):
60 (3 weeks), 80 (3 weeks), 75 (2 weeks), 100 (2 weeks), 50 (3 weeks), 50 (1
week), 50 (3 weeks), 50 (1 week), 50 (4 weeks), 100 (2 weeks), 50 (1 week), 90
(3 weeks), 100 (1 week), 50 (1 week), 60 (2 weeks), 100 (2 weeks), 50 (5
weeks), back-to-back 50s (end of season).

Abu Ben Surrabu (1994):
50 (2 weeks), back-to-back 50s (2 weeks), 100 (2 weeks), 75 [win and BC] (2
weeks), 100 (2 weeks), 100 (6 weeks), 50 (end of season).

Abu Ben Surrabu (1995):
60 (2 weeks), 50 (2 weeks), 100 (2 weeks), 50 (2 weeks), 100 (2 weeks), 100 (2
weeks), 60 (2 weeks), 100 (2 weeks), 50 (1 week), 50 (3 weeks) 5 x 50 multiday
(2 weeks), 50 (2 weeks), 100 (end of season).

Two things are key: knowing your horse, and pacing. Both of the above horses
were seasoned horses when they did this, both were in their teens, and both
were ridden "one ride at a time," with the decision about going to the next
ride not made until it was seen how they came off of the ride before, and how
they felt in the days right after. Every horse is an individual, and the only
way you will know if your horse can do two 100s with four weeks in between is
to ride the first one with a goal of finishing with lots of horse to spare, and
seeing if that works or not.

That said, I agree with the folks who commented that Swanton is more
"user-friendly" than Tevis. I didn't check the schedule, but I think you said
that Swanton was first--my best advice is to go there and ride, and see how it
goes!
