[RC] Dr Q - but really Dr. Weary - tichenor06Ok,I got hurt in 1980 jumping off a run away horse. I have never ever, never ever come off a horse again, and yes I have been on a wide assortment of wild childs. I make a point to never repeat coming off, and I haven't. I know I hurt my lower back, and the upper middle. As time went on I never could do sit ups, it would burn and hurt the upper middle of my back. Fast forward almost 3 decades, and a compound fractured right leg 4 years ago. During training rides, I had terrible pain in the outside of my r knee, couldn't ride in the car without numb right leg, lower back hurt, upper back hurt. After going to orthopedic, then doing drugs, then pt, AND switching to a different old saddle the pain is a bit better but is terrible in the upper part of my back. The pain is to be described as a butcher knife type pain, I couldn't be in any position for it to not hurt. Also I can't lay in bed in any position, sit, lounge around (not to be compared to lunging a horse) for any more than 3-4 hours with out terrible pain. I had to be on the move or standing to not be in pain. After a 25miler in April of 07 and 50 mile ride in September 07 things really came to a head. I bless my purebred ARABIAN for getting me through to the end of both the rides. I was in terrible pain, extreme in the 50, breathing was very difficult. And no I had no crew at either ride. I made my horse carry all tack, and anything else I had. But hey that is what they call endurance right? My horse knew something was up (both times), and not correct or right with me, and really stepped up to the plate as a dedicated partner and friend to do what he had to, to get us back to camp safely. Hugs to Diamond. I went a few more weeks thinking it would go away with lots of ibp, it didn't, and finally I went to my friends Chiro after I could stand it no more. He xrayed and said I had an out pelvis on the right and a curve in my spine. This was in late october I went finally. I was basically sitting on my right butt, and then the curve. Here is the question after 15 adjustments he says to go ahead and ride. Last time I rode it made my upper back hurt. I am now scared of the pain. Most of the time I couldn't sleep because of the severe pain, and I could barely breath due to it. I am way better. I can tell things are better different because I use to walk inward on my right foot so it made me big toe hurt really bad. Now the toenail is growing out normally AND it doesn't hurt there any more. How long does it take to get normal with no pain? When can I ride so I won't be undoing what he has adjusted? Why will my back and pelvis not stay in adjustment? Is it a procession of getting it back? Last time I went he said things felt really good. I felt great. I tried not to be naughty and get it out of whack. Do those muscles have to get strong again? It always hurts to the right of the spine. Since my upper back hurts still but at a much lesser degree when I sleep, does that mean my back is out, or is muscle sore. Also why can't I walk on the treadmill at different levels? Why does it make my back and pelvis seem to hurt? Am I destined to walk on flat forever? My treadmill only goes to 1.5 level at the flattest. I laugh and tell my chiro my goal is to lay in bed for extended periods of time (or all day) and to not have pain. Well it is!! I am height weight proportionate, ride featherweight, and sleep on a tempur pedic. You are a rider, and a chiro, I figured you would know maybe some of what is going on with the riding, and the spine. I DO think I have a good chiro. I have also loved what you have said about back, discs, etc on ridecamp. Makes sense. Inquiring minds wanna know. Sorry it got long. Any info or reading would be appreciative. I wonder if I am the only one with this problem. I tried to keep things in a nutshell. Thanks, for any info. Laura and of course, Diamond the wonder horse! Well in my opinion he is.
