Call me ignorant . . . I didn't even know horses could change leads in the rear. :O

My daughter has a horse who does something very strange when he gallops. It doesn't matter what lead he is on in front...about every six strides he changes leads in the rear....then six strides and changes again, all the while keeping the original lead in front. And it doesn't matter whether he is on the right or the left lead in front...and he does this while running loose....he can be at a slow lope or an all out run and he is still changing leads, back and forth, in the rear..same under saddle in an arena or on the trail. He is seven now and has done this since she got him as a two year old.
