Recently an article I read suggested that gelatin might be beneficial to horses. I didn’t think that was a good idea either, for the same reason.

While I readily eat animals, and cheerfully feed the same to my dogs and
cats*, I do not think it is a good idea to do the same with horse, cow, goat
etc. feed. The reason is that the feeding of animal byproducts seems to
have been the source of BSE or "Mad Cow" disease.
