Re: [RC] Need advice re: healing abscess - Diane TrefethenCarla Richardson wrote:... I have a horse in training that about 3 weeks ago had two abscesses appear on his right fore. One is at the bulb of his hoof, and the other (which came out at the same time) is right above his fetlock. Kathy is right. Have your vet see him. Also, I would recommend having that leg ultrasounded. Why? The *action* that caused the abscessing might also have involved tearing a ligament or tendon sheath. If so, if the infections heal up in say the next 2 months and you start conditioning again, the underlying damage could balloon into a bowed tendon or similar. That happened to my horse because I had no clue about the possibility of tearing. I had to lay him off for a year when the tendon bowed. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
