Re: [RC] Olympic equestrian decision - Diane Trefethen

Careful, Carrie. When you talk about banning "sports that push horses beyond what is natural for them as a species", remember that there are varying opinions on what is natural. There are plenty of casual riders who have no clue about the tremendous potential that resides within their horses. They take them out for a one hour ride twice a week, mostly walking, and think they've pretty much taxed them to the limit. To such people, those who ride 6-10 miles, mostly trotting, are seen as pushing them "beyond their limits" never mind those cruel and inhumane riders who push their horses to race over 25, 50 or 100 miles.

And then there are the radical animal rights activists who believe that merely saying you OWN an animal is morally corrupt.
