Re: [RC] "Feeding the Hoof" - Barbara MoultonWOW I love Ride camp... Joy has been " not herself" quite a while- moving "different" I had a chiro exam which helped some but a couple weeks ago I was riding her and she wasn't lame but moving in a very strange and new way- I asked Kim to watch her move for me at the trot and she laughed and said she was waddling in the back end like a duck. CRUD now what! the ropers all said it wasn't any big deal just work her through it, but I worry that if something is different there must be a reason. "Too much calcium makes magnesium less available, resulting in base-wide gait behind, or misdiagnosis of EPSM, among other things." The barn ran out of oat hay quite a while back so they were feeding the alfalfa 2x a day instead of only in the AM. They just got some in and Hartzell the owner was just saying on Monday how Joy is gobbling it up and seems to prefer it now to anything else. So now ridecamp should I test the forages which I really don't have much control over anyway or just test the oat hay, make that her sole hay and provide some extra protein and balanced mineral suppliment- or just let it all sort out itself or some better idea?
