Have a video of Don Birdsall on HOOF MANAGEMENT FOR THE PERFORMANCE HORSE. 
Think it was part of a clinic that included Linda Tellington Jones & many
others.  It's at least ten years old.  He presented his method of balance. 
Took measurements all around the hoof & was very concerned with hair line 
bulges.  After trim he would sometimes let horse stand overnight & check for
problems the next morning. He said that if there is distortion in the hairline
it will show up at the bottom of the foot in as little as a minute or two.  If
you have ever watched the farrier trim & rasp foot flat, go forge the shoe,
comeback and use the rasp again to make sure that the hoof was flat you will
