[RC] Allegany Shut Up And Ride (NE) 9/06/08 -- Pre-registration reminder and updates - Patti Stedman

Hey folks.

Entries are coming in but imagine a lot of riders are waiting to enter until they see how they fare at Peace Point this weekend before making a final decision about coming to the ride.

Just wanted to remind everyone that the pre-registration postmark deadline is August 19th, which is Tuesday.  (We have a tiny camp which means I need to have an idea how many I have coming and cut the entries off at 60 rigs.)

Just a quick note to provide you with an update on the Allegany Shut Up and Ride 30/50/75 (NE) in Salamanca, New York (the very SW corner of NYS).

No elevator from the LD to the 50 this year.  Looks like the trail layout won't allow it, but will keep you posted if that changes.  So LDers, if you're feeling brave, move on up!

This is the first year we are offering a 75 mile distance.  So far, I have eight confirmed (i.e. entries/deposits received) in the 75, with a handful more promised entries on their way.  This is great, as the ride is a perfect pre-ride for the National Championships in mid-October.  I'd really love to have a good dozen by the pre-registration deadline, so please, come on up and enjoy our beautiful, well-marked trails.  (I guess this really does mean I have to buy those glowsticks!)  E-mail me for more news on the trail layout as it becomes available (i.e. as I nag Richard, TrailMaster and Husband Extraordinaire, into getting it wrapped up).   Looks like the first hold will be an away hold, possibly with a stop and go at the same spot (same locale as last year), and of course we're happy to get your stuff out there for you if you are without a crew.

The 50 and LD are also filling nicely.  Thank you!  I was a little worried with diesel prices, but you guys are coming through wonderfully.  We appreciate it.

WE HAVE LIVE CAMPFIRE MUSIC!  A musically talented friend of mine is bringing a friend and their guitars and they will be playing at the campfire on Saturday evening (or under the tent if it's raining, not that THAT has ever happened), so those of you in the 75 will likely get serenaded to your final vetting.  Bring marshmallows.

This year we'll be using a 30 minute final completion criteria for the ride.  If you have any questions, let me know, or check out the article on this topic in Endurance News in last month's issue.

If you'd like dentistry/bloodwork, the lovely and talented Dr. Lynne Johnson from Commonwealth Equine will be on site with her mobile lab.  Also, I've talked a dear friend, Doris Halstead, a myofascial release practitioner (and author of Symmetry in Motion), into working on horses on Sunday (the day after the ride) if you're interested.  Anne Small, equine massage therapist, is also available before/during/after the ride.  I can put you in touch with any of these folks if you're interested, just drop me a line.

Happy Trails to everyone.

Keep your fingers crossed for a no-hurricane-SUAR this year.
