I too have had the unit go dead after 8 hours.  If garmin makes a HR only receiver it will sync up.  The Transmitters are just transmitters and do not care how many receivers they sync to.  Another suggestion, although it adds to the crew bag, is you can take your charging cradle with the usb adapter and use a separate power supply and give it a charge at lunch and dinner stops.  You could even use a laptop for charging.

I have a Garmin 305 with the Polar HRM modified for equine use, but since the Garmin only lasts about 8 hrs, I’d like another receiver so I can continue to monitor the HR after the Garmin battery dies. Is this possible?
