RE: [RC] [RC] Stupid Question :Canter - Kitley, Carrie E Civ USAF AFSPC 30 MDSS/SGSLFThanks, Kathy. That makes a lot of sense. And actually, when you mentioned your horse getting "disorganized" if you don't ride with a full seat. My mare tends to get this way as well and when she gets disorganized, has a tendency to lose her head on occasion and I prefer not to hit the sky. :) It often depends on the speed and terrain I'm riding at the time as well. He has a real wierd canter and gallops better than he canters. However, I am taking a lot of arena lessons and finding that I almost HAVE to canter Drako with a full seat otherwise he gets really disorganized. And Drako has a wonderful canter. Trick is to have your body not lean forward which is my tendency from too many miles on the trail and not enough arena time. I think that any standing in the stirrup leads to more stress by displacing weight that would be distributed on the saddle pads onto the stirrup bars which would lead to more pounds per pressure. I also think this would beat up your legs a little and cause more fatigue trying to hold this position than if you have a nice relaxed following seat in the canter. I was leasing Beau for a month or two and noticed that my stirrup leathers were way stretched out so I suspect that the lessee was putting a lot of pressure into the stirrups. It was pretty suspicious because I had the same stirrup leathers for years, and I didn't have to punch holes for my stubby legs and all of a sudden I needed to punch three more holes. K. Deep seated ,light or standing or a mixture ?Is it still possible but have a slow decent canter ?.
