[RC] Foaming at the mouth - Sharon HahnI'll assume the horse wasn't one of those ones that foams a lot just from how they interact with the bit (witness many dressage horses). In the Midwest and East, horses often get slobber from a fungus that infects clover (Google "slaframine"). It can be quite gross (back east we would have a puddle under the horse's head when tacking up!), but my vet said it is not dangerous and just to make sure the horses get enough water so they don't get dehydrated from all the slobber. Some horses are more sensitive than others (or may eat more of the clover than others), so everybody in the pasture may not slobber. I'm not sure whether this can be a factor in hay or only fresh clover. IN RESPONSE TO: -- Want an e-mail address like mine?
