You are so very right..I even have to have friends who ride my horses sign a release. I adopted it from a ride entry release. I am most concerned with their insurance company suing me rather than a friend if they get hurt. Insurance companies will do anything to get out of paying a claim if they think they can get someone's homeowner's insurance for example to pay for it.
Example: My fiance Marc hurt himself loading hay at our local hay barn. When we had to go to the ER, they later tried to get his homeowner's insurance to cover it. If that had been a horse incident, and the HO insurance had been forced to pay, they likely would place a writer on his HO policy to no longer cover horses.
An attorney friend of mine reviewed the document I created and said it would likely keep anyone from getting very far in a lawsuit if they were to get hurt riding one of my horses. Happy to share if anyone wants it.

but...but...but....you need to understand that guilt or innocence,
knowledge or none does not MATTER in many courts today. All that is needed in
court is that someone IMAGINES that they have been injured, EVEN IF IT IS THEIR
OWN STUPID FAULT. Someone can SUE and WIN, regardless of the demonstrable fact
that HE HIMSELF was at fault. It is a huge risk, to believe or imagine that our
courts have anything whatever to do with justice. It is much safer and wiser to
step on THAT bug before it gets that far.
