Re: [RC] Outlaw Trail 1998--nostalgiac moment - Barbara McCrary

I have heard that competitive events are not allowed.  Wish I knew for sure....

The "heartbeat rule" was, as I recall, no groups of more than 12 heartbeats?? So 6 horse/rider groups are ok and then there was also something about competitive events. So you MIGHT be able to do a ride with 24 people, staggering the start at maybe 40 min intervals, and get the ride through in the daylight.

Seems like a couple of the days were start in the dark end in the dark, expecially the day that went through the worlds largest living organism, lunch at a point where we intersected the road, then on over the slick rock country down into the escalante river ...

Leo, you have any pictures??

Maybe they could do the ride, not have it through that Escalante area, as in everybody that wanted to could ride individually through, then pick the ride up again on the next stretch. I wonder if that area could be exempt like the Tevis is because of historical significance. Cindy

A few year's ago Our shoer (he rides endurance) Gave us a bunch of old EN magazine's. One of the covers caught my eye right away It was of a lady on a black horse in a canyon with a creek(river?) running threw it. It was a really neat picture that made me want to try the Outlaw trail ride, Sadly for me it is no longer put on. Is their a chance of this ride ever coming back?

`reading about the OT a couple of decades ago is what got me interested in endurance.

I rode parts of the OT on a very inept horse, so I didn't finish all of it.
But I have traveled through Escalante a couple or three times since then,
and I agree...I miss it, too. I'd give a lot to be able to ride it again.
I am fascinated with red rock and slick rock country.
